Depok, Indonesia – February 1, 2025 – AIESEC in Universitas Indonesia held Global Village Winter 2025 in Living World Kota Wisata Cibubur, Jawa Barat.

Global Village Winter is a multicultural festival celebrating diversity, cross-cultural exchange, and global unity. Held on February 1st, 2025, the event brought together Exchange Participants from various countries to share their unique traditions, cuisines, and experiences, fostering greater cultural understanding among attendees.

Exchange Participants (EP) Parade

The event opened by the Exchange Participants Parade with representatives from Morocco, Mongolia, Vietnam, India, and South Korea, each proudly showcasing their traditional attire and cultural artifacts. Following the parade, the EP Sharing Session provided a platform for participants to reflect on their experiences in Indonesia. They shared heartfelt stories about the kindness of Indonesians, the support of the organizing committee, and their impactful volunteer work—including teaching in schools, mangrove planting, turtle conservation, and visits to ministries. These experiences not only enriched their own experiences but also contributed to locals.

Live Country Booths

The highlight of the event was the Live Country Booths, where visitors immersed themselves in the traditions of different nations through food, games, and cultural exhibitions. For example, visitors could view a display of ancient Egyptian papyrus paper, commonly used for hieroglyphic writing. They could also sample the famous Bastilla dish and Moroccan tea, a symbol of hospitality.

The Korean booth introduced visitors to Gangjung and Yakgwa, traditional Korean snacks, and offered interactive sessions featuring the popular games Yut Nori and Gonggi. At the Mongolian booth, visitors could see a demonstration of Dörvön Berkh, a traditional game played with sheep ankle bones. The Indian booth exhibited traditional attire such as sarees, jhumkas, bangles, and bindis, and offered tastes of Indian street food like pani puri and bhujiya. Finally, the Vietnamese booth presented Vietnamese banknotes and explained the cultural significance of lì xì (lucky money envelopes), while also offering samples of the country’s renowned coffee and coconut candy.

Talkshow

Beyond cultural exploration, the event also addressed pressing global issues. The Talk Show, titled “Roots of Change: Harnessing Cultural Diversity for Climate Resilience”, featured insights from expert speakers, including Felisa Yunita, an Exchange Participant Returnee from South Korea focusing on SDG 15 (Life on land), and Naura Hasna Farhatani, a Climate Action Consultant. The discussion emphasized how cultural diversity can drive sustainable environmental solutions, inspiring attendees to become more conscious global citizens.

Workshop

Attendees also participated in a hands-on workshop brought by Sekarcyle, which demonstrated how to transform used cooking oil into eco-friendly dish soap, promoting sustainable living practices.

Local and International Performances

The celebration of diversity continued with captivating local and international performances. SMAN 28 Jakarta’s Ratoeh Jaroe Team mesmerized the audience with their precise and energetic synchronized hand movements. International performances included a lively K-pop performance by Vietnam Oi (Vietnam), and an Indian Folk Dance Medley featuring Bharatanatyam (Tamil Nadu), Bhangra (Punjab), Dandiya (Gujarat), and Ghoomar (Rajasthan), each representing a different aspect of India’s rich cultural heritage. A Moroccan Cultural Performance showcasing traditional Moroccan music and dance also delighted the audience.

Exchange Participant Mouna from Morocco expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to represent her country, stating, “Indonesia may be far from my home, but its people are the closest to my heart. Being part of this event has been an unforgettable experience, and I hope I have been a good ambassador for Moroccan culture.” Global Village Winter 2025 successfully became a space for intercultural connections, proving that cultural appreciation can bring people together. Through this event, AIESEC at UI demonstrates its commitment to fostering global citizenship through initiatives that promote understanding, collaboration, and cultural exchange.
