Sumpah Pemuda: The Role of Youth in The Nation’s Independence
Indonesia Youth Foundation (IYF) is proud to announce the successful conclusion of the Bali International Student Festival (BISF) 2024, held virtually via Zoom Meeting. BISF 2024, one of Southeast Asia’s top student events, offered a unique platform for global students to engage in cross-cultural exchanges while embracing Bali’s vibrant spirit. With the theme “Acknowledging Unconventionality to Rethink Traditionality,” this year’s festival encouraged participants to challenge traditional norms and embrace fresh, unconventional ideas. Students and youth leaders gathered worldwide from September 26 to 29 to celebrate creativity and global collaboration.
Engaging in a 4-Day Global Dialogue
On the first day, Faiza Syahla Sabila, one of the keynote speakers, emphasized the importance of valuing hobbies. Furthermore, she highlighted how they play a key role in youth empowerment. She highlighted that universities should encourage and support students’ passions, allowing them to develop critical skills. Following this, Ahmad Afryan, another speaker, highlighted the importance of understanding organizational dynamics. He explained that this understanding is crucial for fostering stronger collaboration among youth. Additionally, he emphasized the value of adaptability in today’s interconnected world.
On the second day, participants were divided into breakout rooms for various panel sessions. Each panel focused on themes relevant to global challenges. Each panel session offered valuable insights and in-depth discussions led by field experts. Participants had the opportunity to gain diverse perspectives on current global issues.
The Tourism Panel featured speakers such as Eliana Angela, Anak Agung Mia Itentilia S.IP., M.A., Samantha Elisabeth, M.I.Kom., C.P.S., and Astrid Nadya Rizkita. The Youth Empowerment Panel included Audi Sefria, Agustinus Allan Porajow, and Bhagasjati Kusuma. The Education Panel brought together Azira Ahimsa, M. Akif Tholibul Huda, and Carlene Putri Darius. Meanwhile, the Finance Panel featured experts such as Fithra Faisal, Alya Shafira Mashuri, and Shashank Verma, and the Peace and Security Panel included Burak Kesanlioglu, Kenzie Ryvantya, and Putri Rahma Asri. Finally, the Climate Change Panel was led by Gita Palgunadi and Dheamyra Aysha Ihsanti.
On the third day, participants engaged in in-depth discussions within their respective panels, building on the previous day’s themes. Moreover, the sessions provided a platform for collaboration and innovation. Participants were encouraged to exchange ideas and perspectives with fellow students and professionals. These discussions aimed to develop actionable solutions for real-world issues.
On the fourth day, BISF 2024 hosted Presentation Day, with each panel given 15 minutes to present. In addition, the event featured diverse discussions on global issues. Specifically, the Tourism Panel discussed overtourism in Bali, highlighting issues like excessive transportation and illegal infrastructure, and proposed sustainable solutions. The Peace and Security Panel focused on global stability ahead of the Mega Election 2024. The Youth Empowerment Panel advocated for justice and equality for people with disabilities, while the Finance Panel addressed global recession challenges and youth-focused solutions. The Climate Change Panel tackled green-washing in marketed products, and the Education Panel explored the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in education.
The day ended with a voting session, where the Climate Change Panel won the award for Best Presentation, the Tourism Panel received the award for Best Idea, and several participants were recognized as Best Delegates: Naura Yazmi (Peace & Security), Yap Wen Min (Climate Change), Rifqi Ananda (Youth Empowerment), Florencia Merrie Burhan (Education), Anra Querina Lubis (Tourism), and Gwen Muninggar Maharani (Finance).

In her closing remarks, Zia from the IYF Board emphasized cross-cultural collaboration and knowledge exchange. “Through this event, we are not only fostering connections between people of different cultures but also encouraging the exchange of knowledge that can lead to real impact.
