Learning Design the Hard Way: The Method That Delivers Results

Jakarta, December 27, 2025 — Building real skills takes more than theory. It requires practice, exposure, and the willingness to learn the hard way. This belief was put into action when Indonesia Youth Foundation (IYF) joined an online Design Workshop hosted by BEM Fakultas Psikologi Universitas Gunadarma, with one of its delegates stepping directly into the learning process.

Representing IYF, Elricha, Partnership Staff at Indonesia Youth Foundation, participated in the workshop held fully online via Zoom. The session brought together students and young creatives from various backgrounds. They shared the same goal: sharpening their design fundamentals in a practical and accessible learning environment. Moreover, this shared purpose fostered collaboration and encouraged a deeper understanding of key concepts

The workshop was designed to introduce core design principles while allowing participants to immediately apply what they learned. Rather than focusing solely on theory, the session emphasized hands-on practice using Canva, making it especially suitable for beginners who want to understand visual communication in a clear and approachable way.

For Elricha, the experience went beyond acquiring technical skills.

I am very happy to represent Indonesia Youth Foundation as a delegate in this Workshop Design. I gained a new perspective on design and learned important design principles in a fun and interactive way,” said Elricha, Partnership Staff of Indonesia Youth Foundation. “The session was full of knowledge, and I am grateful to be selected as one of the three most active participants. This experience truly motivates me to keep learning and growing.

The workshop began at 1:00 PM with an opening session led by the Master of Ceremony, followed by welcoming remarks from the Project Officer. Guided by the moderator, the main session featured Fakhira Az as the speaker. She delivered step-by-step explanations of design fundamentals, practical tips, and live demonstrations. The workshop encouraged participants to actively engage, experiment, and apply each concept in real time.

Building Confidence and Real Design Skills Through Collaboration

This collaborative learning atmosphere helped participants understand core design concepts. More importantly, it built their confidence in applying those concepts. This confidence is a crucial step toward developing real, usable skills.

Through participation in educational programs like this, Indonesia Youth Foundation continues to reinforce its commitment to youth empowerment through learning and collaboration with academic institutions. IYF delegates gain experiences that become not only personal achievements, but also valuable resources they actively share within the organization and the wider youth community.
