Free Indonesian Language 2025: Connect with the World!

(October 25, 2025) The Indonesia Youth Foundation officially launched the IYF Free Indonesian Language Course 2025 as part of its commitment to promoting Bahasa Indonesia and Indonesian culture on a global scale. The program targets non-Indonesian citizens interested in learning Indonesian through a structured and accessible system. Furthermore, it provides a clear pathway for learners to build their skills step by step. The course is fully online, offering levels from A1 to B2 based on placement test results. Registration runs from 28 September to 20 October 2025, followed by a placement test on 25 October 2025. Classes will be held until 7 December 2025.

The IYF Free Indonesian Language Course 2025 is designed as a “Bahasa Indonesia bagi Penutur Asing program” that enables participants to communicate effectively in Indonesian while gaining cultural insights. The program provides three hours of online classes per week, learning materials, an electronic certificate, and opportunities to connect with Indonesians from diverse backgrounds. By removing financial barriers, the Indonesian Youth Foundation aims to expand access to Indonesian language education for international learners. Consequently, this initiative creates more opportunities for a diverse range of students to engage with the language.

Nasywa Syahra, Program Director of the IYF Free Indonesian Language Course 2025 and Head of Division Indonesian Studies at the Indonesia Youth Foundation, stated that the program reflects the organization’s broader mission. “This BIPA class is part of the Indonesian Studies division work program. Through education, we aim to introduce the Indonesian language and culture to the global community. Additionally, we strive to foster greater understanding and appreciation of Indonesia’s rich heritage. “Language and culture are closely connected, and Indonesia has a highly diverse cultural landscape,” she said.

She further highlighted the academic structure of the course. “Our curriculum covers listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. All instructors have gone through prior training, and we also collaborated with BIPA Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia to ensure the quality of teaching and cultural content delivered to participants,” Nasywa added.

Indonesian Language: From Basics to Cultural Context

The course curriculum progresses gradually, starting with basic daily expressions at level A1. Then, it advances to more complex sentence structures and contextual language use at levels B1 and B2. Each session integrates cultural elements, including discussions on Indonesian traditions, social practices, and creative works like Indonesian films. This approach, therefore, allows participants to understand the language within its social and cultural context. As a result, learners gain a deeper appreciation of both the language and its cultural significance.

Around one hundred participants joined the previous cohort, with some currently residing and studying in Indonesia. The learning process uses an active approach to encourage interaction, while instructors evaluate progress through written tests and project-based assignments covering all language skills.
