The Role of Youth for The Agent of Change

An agent of change, what is it?

Surely, you must familiar with this term, right? You must have seen news like Greta Thunberg and her action that speak about environment and climate crisis issue louder and louder. This is an example of an agent of change activity in a positive way. Agent of change is anyone who has the skill and power to stimulate, facilitate, and coordinate the effort to implement the change. Change agents may be either external or internal. The success of any change effort depends heavily on the quality and workability of the relationship between the change agent and the key decision makers within the organization.

Usually an agent of change work to make the world become a better place for the future generations. They use many tools to influence others to make a positive impact as well. From listening, socializing, communicating to make other people aware to the issue and also being fearless and having a clear vision at the same time. There are many ways social change agents influence others.

Being an agent of change = Being a good quality leader

Being an agent of change means you must have  a lot of people skills since you will meet people around the nation or even the world. Skills like team-building, forging strong interpersonal relationships and communicating within groups are mandatory for good change agents. They need a lot of empathy, with good listening skills. An agent of change must be able to put themselves in the shoes of people affected by the change. In addition, they must be creative, solutive, adaptive and of course have the courage to give voice to the important issues that voiceless.

Youth, play an important role for being an agent of change …

The description of the required skills is in fact very suitable with the skills of today’s youth life. According to United Nation, a youth is any person between the age of 15 years and 30 years regardless of the gender. Youth is believed to be the backbone of any nation. Youth can play an important role in the development of their society. This makes the youth to be an important age group in both today’s society and the future society than other age groups. Therefore, due to the high dependence on youth in the society, the youth have a centre role to play because the future of their families, communities and the country lies in their hands. Youth are expected to advance the current technology, education, politics, peace of the country. On the other hand, youths have also to maintain the culture of our culture, all good values in the societies, development projects, etc.

Never before have so many young people been involved in movements for change worldwide. They are taking to the streets and using online social networks and communities to connect, express their voices, and campaign for change. They are protesting against authoritarian regimes, corruption, and inequalities. They are fighting for sustainable development and a better future for current and new generations.

Through active participation, youth are empowered to play a vital role in their own development as well as in that of their communities, helping them to learn vital life-skills, develop knowledge on human rights and citizenship and to promote positive civic action. There is no room for “impossible” for youth to take the real action in building the country and give positive impact to others.

Aim to make positive impacts for better world

Being an agent of change can inspire us to act in positive ways in our society. There are many benefits when young people are involved as leaders in social change efforts.
