Keberagaman Sosial Budaya dan Masalahnya

We know Indonesia has a lot of diversity, including language, customs and culture, ethnicity and race, etc. Yet, we can make sure that some of them are not known by the Indonesia society. It must be happening and we can deny about that. No worries, it is not a big deal, because of this millennial era, We can use the magic of technology searching for everything we do not know. As an example, is exploring our diversity in Indonesia. Which means is not always about visiting the place directly, but we can also use technology for exploring a wonderful Indonesia or another diversity in the world.

Let’s explore one of the unique group society in Indonesia, which is located in South Sulawesi, Sidenreng Rappang regency, Amparita. This group is named Tolotang or Towani Tolotang. Tolotang is popularized by La Panaungi who is the first to adopt this belief. There are 5000 followers of this group. Tolotang or Towani Tolotang is also a group who worships things that are considered supernatural and ancestral beliefs which is they called Dewata Seuwae, The One Almighty God. They worship by doing traditional ceremony and make offerings like fruits, vegetables, and their yields.

There are also some unique things about Tolotang. They always wear sarong and peci as the characteristic of Tolotang but it’s same with Muslim wear. However, Tolotang is labelled by the government as Hindu religion because in Indonesia there are only 6 recognized religions. So, in the Indonesian ID card, the religion is Hindu, but the religious activities are still carried out according to Tolotang belief. Not only that, the group leader in Tolotang is called Uwa’ or Wa’ for instance Wa’ Madi.

That is a little bit of Tolotang group in Amparita, South Sulawesi that is not familiar around people in Indonesia. Also, this is a proof that Indonesia is a country who has a lot of natural and cultural wealth, because Indonesia is a wonderland. With this diversity in Indonesia, we always can live together with apply Bhineka Tunggal Ika as national motto of Indonesia, different but still one. There’s nothing reason to humiliate one another, because the difference makes us unite.

“We are one nation even though we have various differences, but that is not a barrier to mutual respect for each other. As our national motto, Bhineka Tunggal Ika.”
